About Phil Cubeta & Philanthropy Offerings — Legacy Giving Resources for Nimble Nonprofits

Welcome to my house on the net!

I am a retired college professor operating out of his basement to help the nimble nonprofits who do so impossibly much with so impossibly little.

Free weekly Civic Office Hours and legacy-giving resources helping nimble nonprofits ($2.5M–$25M annual budgets) get significant legacy gifts, now, later, at death and beyond death from the precious few who can do so much.— led by Phil Cubeta.

Basics

  • Founded in 2022 by Phil Cubeta to help nonprofit leaders and their advisors bring philanthropy home to the communities they serve.
  • Former Wallace Chair in Philanthropy at The American College of Financial Services (12 years), where he was responsible for the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) designation, awarded to over 2,000 advisors and nonprofit gift planners.
  • Inducted into The Charitable Gift Planners Hall of Fame in 2022. Also honored by Advisors in Philanthropy and Texas Women's Foundation.
  • Based in Sherborn, Massachusetts. Serves nonprofits nationally, with active local cohorts.

Defining Difference

  • What makes this different: live, relationship-based teaching from a credentialed gift-planning specialist, focused specifically on small and mid-sized ("nimble") nonprofits that the traditional experts overlook — not generic content.
  • We are cocreating in our conversations a body of knowledge and practice in a niche that holds hundreds of thousands of nimble community-led profits for whom the best legacy giving practices of big endowed nonprofts are often worse than useless.
  • We are co-creating a repository of our own hard won practical wisdom when it comes to endowed gifts.

Services

  • Civic Office Hours — Free weekly live sessions where nonprofit leaders get direct, personal guidance on planned giving, legacy gifts, bequests, and donor conversations.
  • Bringing Philanthropy Home — Structured course/membership program teaching nonprofits how to build legacy giving programs around  donor decision moments.
  • Legacy Readiness Resources (the Wheel) — Free downloadable PDF library covering the ways nonprofits gather legacy gifts, for board and staff preparation. We learn the established best practices and adapt them for our own purposes.
